By Trevor Johnson

Have you got a knack for writing? Then why not let everyone else know and get yourself noticed by entering your compositions into short story contests. Many a famous writer was discovered by entering them. You could be the next great writer who rises to fame by submitting your work and getting it published.

You can find many contests out these and most have a subject or theme for entering their certain contest. It may be as broad as fiction or non fiction but some have specific topics you will need to follow. If you have writings already accomplished you can search for contests that your topic is related to.

Entries for contests, especially if you win, will want information. You will need to write a bio of yourself. Most writers find this the most challenging because they don't like writing about themselves. You will need to do it or have someone else write it for you. Speak of yourself, where you live, your aspirations and your passion for where the stories come from.

Many sites are online that have lists of contests you can find. You can also get a Writer's Market and find them or go to your local library and borrow their copy to look for them. You will want to mail in and follow all of their entry guidelines to avoid disqualification. Many contests are now all through online entry sources so that makes it easier for you in many ways.

Imagine to yourself what magazine you would like to see your work in. Who would you like to work with if they made your story into a movie and what you will wear to an award show? All of these help you envision what you want for your writing and for your goals. Your list will be your own but you know what I mean.

You must realize that any winning of any contest is an accomplishment and you should be proud of yourself. Many times an award includes having your piece published and you then are a published writer, which is your eventual goal. The more your work is out there the better and it will be seen by others who are looking for writers so entering short story contests is a great idea. - 29858
